Mumbai: Mother strangles son to death to save daughter-in-law

Mumbai: In a rare incident, a 45-year-old woman strangled her son to death to save her daughter-in-law from him.

Anwari Idrisi's youngest son, Nadeem had an addiction to drugs and used to beat his wife, due to which his wife left her in-laws' house. Two years ago Nadeem married the woman, hailing from Allahabad.

As soon as he got tired, Idrisi pushed him towards the steel ladder and then strangled his neck with her duppatta.

The police said that when Nadeem's wife returned home, she saw her mother-in-law crying with his body beside her.

Idrisi was arrested by the police and was made to appear before the court where she has been put under police custody till August 31.

She is now booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

जम्मू-कश्मीर : अनंतनाग में सुरक्षा बलों से मुठभेड़ में एक आतंकी ढेर

श्रीनगर : जम्मू-कश्मीर के अनंतनाग जिले में गुरुवार रात सुरक्षा बलों के साथ हुई मुठभेड़ में एक आतंकी के मारे जाने की खबर है. मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार एक पुलिस अधिकारी ने बताया कि जिले के बिजबेहरा इलाके में आतंकियों की मौजूदगी की सूचना मिलने पर सुरक्षा बलों ने घेराबंदी और तलाशी अभियान शुरू किया था. आतंकियों ने सुरक्षा बलों पर गोलीबारी की जिसके बाद मुठभेड़ शुरू हो गई.

सुरक्षाबलों की तरफ से की गई कार्रवाई में एक आतंकी मारा गया. आतंकी के शव की तलाश की जा रही है. गौरतलब है कि जम्मू-कश्मीर के शेपियां में हुए आतंकी हमले में एक मेजर और एक जवान शहीद हो गए थे. इससे पहले कुलगाम जिले में भी आतंकियों और सुरक्षा बलों के बीच हुई मुठभेड़ में दो आतंकवादी मारे गए थे.

Military veterans write to PM Modi condemning attacks on Muslims, Dalits

More than 100 military veterans have in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned targeting of Muslims and Dalits by “self-appointed protectors of Hinduism”, saying India’s strength is its diversity, media reports said on Monday.

The letter also expressed concern over alleged climate of fear and suppression of dissent, as it backed the ‘Not In My Name’ campaign that saw people across the country holding protest demonstrations against mob violence and cow vigilantism.

The armed forces stood for unity in diversity and differences in religion, language, caste or culture had never come in the way of servicemen performing their duty, the veteran said.

India has recently seen a rise in violence in the name of cow, held sacred by many Hindus. Several states have enacted laws and prescribed stringent punishment for smuggling and slaughtering of the animal, which is banned in most parts of the country. Muslims and Dalits have been the worst hit by cow vigilantism, which has also been condemned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

गांधी ने रास्ता दिखाया, पटेल ने एकीकरण किया
- कोविंद ने कहा, "महात्मा गांधीजी ने हमें मार्ग दिखाया। सरदार पटेल ने हमारे देश का एकीकरण किया। बाबा साहब भीमराव अंबेडकर ने हम सभी में मानवीय गरिमा और गणतांत्रिक मूल्यों का संचार किया। वे राजनीतिक स्वतंत्रता से संतुष्ट नहीं थे। वे करोड़ों लोगों की आर्थिक स्वतंत्रता का लक्ष्य चाहते थे।"

कांग्रेस को एतराज
- राज्यसभा में विपक्ष के नेता गुलाम नबी आजाद ने कहा कि राष्ट्रपति ने जवाहरलाल नेहरू के मंत्रियों के नाम लिए लेकिन एक बार भी पहले प्रधानमंत्री का नाम नहीं लिया। ये अफसोस की बात है। वे (कोविंद) अब बीजेपी के कैंडिडेट नहीं हैं।
- इस पर केंद्रीय मंत्री रविशंकर प्रसाद ने कहा कि पंडित नेहरू बड़े नेता थे, लेकिन सभी भाषणों में उनका जिक्र किए जाने की जबर्दस्ती कर क्या कांग्रेस नेहरू की पर्सनैलिटी की अहमियत को कम नहीं कर रही?

Ram Nath Kovind sworn in as President, calls for making India an economic leader, moral exemplar

New Delhi: Ram Nath Kovind was on Tuesday sworn in as 14th President and called for making India an economic leader as well as a moral exemplar.

71-year-old Kovind was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar in Parliament's Central Hall.

This links us to our global family, our friends and partners abroad, and our diaspora, that contributes in so many ways across the world. It brings us to the support of other nations, whether by extending the umbrella of the International Solar Alliance or being first responders following natural disasters.

We have achieved a lot as a nation, but the effort to do more, to do better and to do faster should be relentless. This is especially so as we approach the 75th Year of our independence in 2022. What must also bother us is our ability to enhance access and opportunity for the last person and the last girl-child from an under-privileged family if I may put it so, in the last house in the last village. This must include a quick and affordable justice delivery system in all judicial forums.

The citizens of this country are the real source of strength to me. I am confident that they will continue to give me the energy to serve the nation.

We need to sculpt a robust, high growth economy, an educated, ethical and shared community, and an egalitarian society, as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi and Deen Dayal Upadhyay ji. These are integral to our sense of humanism. This is the India of our dreams, an India that will provide equality of opportunities. This will be the India of the 21st century.

आयकर विभाग इऩ छोटी सी गलतियों पर लगा सकता है हजारों की पेनल्टी

नई दिल्ली(जेएनएन)। आयकर विभाग की तमाम धाराएं करदाता पर पेनल्टी लगाने के प्रावधान से जुड़ी हैं। अगर आप आयकर विभाग से जुड़े किसी भी कानून का उल्लंघन करते हैं तो इन्हीं धाराओं के अंतर्गत विभाग आप पर पेनल्टी लगाता है। अधिकांशत: करदाताओं को इसकी जानकारी कम होती है, इसीलिए वो मुश्किल में फंस जाते हैं। 

पेनल्टी से बचने के लिए इन बातों का रखें ख्याल:1- नोटिस का जबाव न देने पर: इंकम टैक्स डिपार्टमेंट से कोई भी नोटिस आने पर इसका जवाब जरूर दें। भ्रम की स्थिती में विभाग की ओर से करदाता को कई बार वर्तमान या पिछले आयकर रिटर्न से जुड़ी जानकारी मांगने के लिए सेक्शन 142(1), 143(2), 142(2A) के अंतर्गत नोटिस भेजे जाते हैं। करदाता की ओर से इन नोटिस का जवाब न देने पर विभाग करदाता पर हर नोटिस के लिए 10,000 रुपए की पेनल्टी लगा सकता है। यह पेनल्टी सेक्शन 271(1)(b) के अंतर्गत विभाग की ओर से लगाई जाती है।

2- आय छुपाने पर: मकान से मिलने वाला किराया, बचत खाते पर मिलने वाला ब्याज, सलाहकार के रूप में जुड़कर किसी संस्थान से कमाई गई आय समेत तमाम ऐसी इनकम होती हैं जिनको करदाता रिटर्न फाइल करते समय दिखाना भूल जाता है। कानून की दृष्टि से आय छुपाने के जुर्म में विभाग सेक्शन 271(1)(C) के अंतर्गत करदाता पर 300 फीसदी तक की पेनल्टी लगा सकता है। इस स्थिति में कम से कम लगने वाली पेनल्टी भी 100% की होती है।

3- इंकम टैक्स रिटर्न फाइल न करने पर: टैक्सेबल इंकम होने की स्थिति में अगर करदाता रिटर्न फाइल नहीं करता है तो सेक्शन 271F के अंतर्गत विभाग 10,000 रुपए तक की पेनल्टी लगा सकता है। वित्त वर्ष 2015-16 के रिटर्न करदाता 31 मार्च 2017 तक फाइल कर सकता है।

Samajwadi Party leader links names of Hindu gods with alcohol, sparks row

New Delhi: In controversial remarks that were later expunged, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal on Wednesday linked the names of Hindu gods with alcohol, sparking a protest by the BJP in the Rajya Sabha.

The ruling members objected to the comments which Agarwal withdrew and apologised. He had initially refused to apologise to the "contractors of the Hindu religion".

The Samajwadi leader later said if his remarks had hurt the sentiment of anyone he was withdrawing them.

But the BJP members refused to budge and continued slogan shouting.

Amid the din, Kurien twice adjourned the House and urged the media not to report the expunged comments.
